Learn with greater intention
Understand why jiu-jitsu is taught the way it is and how to organize what you are learning.
Beyond the Belt helps early Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners understand how to learn, reflect, work through plateaus, and become more intentional training partners.
Early training can feel scattered. You attend class, collect details, and work hard, but still wonder whether you are improving or even learning the right way. Beyond the Belt gives you a framework for understanding the learning process behind the mat time.
Understand why jiu-jitsu is taught the way it is and how to organize what you are learning.
Turn journaling and review into practical tools for continuity, motivation, and decision-making.
Respond more constructively to plateaus, imposter syndrome, competition pressure, and ego.
Become a more useful training partner and build a personal code that supports long-term practice.
The lessons are intentionally concise. Work through them in order, return to the exercises when your training changes, and use the material as a reference during the parts of the journey that feel less clear.
I created Beyond the Belt from the questions and friction I encountered while learning Brazilian jiu-jitsu, competing, rebuilding after injury, and applying a behavioral-science perspective to long-term practice. I am a BJJ purple belt and active practitioner. The course is about learning with greater intention, not claiming that the journey can be mastered from a screen.
“Progress becomes easier to recognize when you understand what you are practicing, why it matters, and how to reflect on the work.”

No. Beyond the Belt focuses on learning, reflection, mindset, training relationships, and the habits that support technical development.
It is especially useful during the first several years of training, but the reflection, competition, ego, and partner lessons remain relevant beyond that stage.
No. Competition is one topic in the course, but the overall system supports recreational practitioners and competitors.
Move at a useful pace. The modules are concise, and the exercises are designed to be revisited as your training changes.
Beyond the Belt is educational content. It does not provide medical care, mental-health treatment, diagnosis, or individualized coaching.
